Nice – Where to visit?
Nice, through its unique history and generous residents, has many interesting sights that attract millions of tourists every year. Discovering these places of interest for a few days is recommended. Nice is definitely somewhere you should bring the Kodak.
Promenade des Anglais
Being Nice’s most predominant feature, it is hard not to miss. Stretching 6km from the airport to the port, the Promenade is picturesque, both by day and night. This superb seafront, lined with flowers and palm trees, was originally a path just two metres wide. Englishman Reverend Lewis Way built it at his own expense into the stunning promenade it has become.
La Colline du Chateau
Only a few sections of the wall remain of the ancient castle. From the flower-filled park up on the hill there is a unique view of Nice and the surrounding area. This hill consists of a park, playground and artificial waterfall. There is also a Catholic and Jewish cemetery. There are hundreds of steps you have to climb to get to the top, but luckily an elevator can be found at its foot with a charge of 80 cent. This park closes at 7pm daily.
Le Jardin Albert 1er
These gardens were built over the river Paillon towards the end of the last century. This area is perfect for relaxation and leisurely walks. In these parks one will find a band stand for concerts. On the central lawn you can’t fail to notice L’Arc, an immense and audacious sculpture by Berner Venet.
Parc Forestier du Mont-Boron and Le Fort du Mont Alban
The Mediterranean forest, 7 miles of marked trails, are definitely worth a look. From the Mont Alban fort this is a beautiful panorama of the coast. Built 222m high in the hills, this 16th century stronghold possesses bastions, watch-towers and glorious panoramic views stretching from along the Mediterranean coastline. During the clear summers days you can even see the island of Corsica.
La Place Massena
This fountain filled square is the pulse of the city. This square is at the hub of Nice‘s business and shopping district making it a favorite meeting place for tourists. Elegant buildings tinted in Pompeian red may be seen to the northern side of the square. The huge fountain found in the center of this square represents the planets of the solar system.
Phoenix Floral Park
This 10 acre park presents the typical biotopes of Mediterranean flora. Throughout the year many exhibitions and events are organised here. Through several different climates one will find thousands of rare plant species. It also contains a lake, home to hundreds of water birds, fish and living insects. 405 Promenade des Anglais. 2 day visit to Cannes/Nice/Monaco?
Anyone know what would be the fastest mode of transport? We fly into Nice airport and are visiting on a Saturday(am) & Sunday(pm) in a few weeks. Is there a travelcard I can get for 48 hours? I’ve looked at travelsites, but as I don’t speak french, I have difficulty understanding them. Any help would be appreciated. Do you have any recommendations to have Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner in either of the above places, that has great views and not too expensive? What is the weather likely to be like? Thanks for your suggestions.

How to Visit France
1.) The Louvre
First stop is almost always the most famous art museum in the history of France and probably the world, The Louvre. It houses some great artistic talents including the famously infamous Leonardo da Vinci. His Mona Lisa is still the top attraction, and that secretive, knowing smile of hers is always a must-see.
2.) The Eiffel Tower
Next on the list is, of course, the Eiffel Tower. It was once ridiculed by ancient artists as a monstrosity but is now regarded as one of Paris, Franceâ??s best works of art. Inside, you can get souvenirs, have your postcards stamped with the Eiffel Tower insignia and dine in their restaurants.
3.) French Riviera
Within its borders, you will find the famous tourist destinations Nice, Cannes and St. Tropez. Its beaches are so breathtaking and magnificent, and they are perfect for a romantic rendezvous. The scene also becomes a little wilder once the parties get rolling in the evenings.
4.) The Cathedral of Notre Dame
Victor Hugoâ??s famous book has this as the backdrop of his entire story where we all learned to love the brave and endearing hunchback. Famous for its stone architecture complete with towering religious icons, gothic design capturing different faces of gargoyles, the Notre Dame Cathedral shouldnâ??t be missed. As such, this place should always be in the itinerary of anyone visiting France.
5.) Napoleonâ??s Arc de Triomphe
This was built in honor of the French military who fought alongside Napoleon, and this is one of Franceâ??s famous historic landmarks. Some say that if you donâ??t know your way around Paris, you could end up going around in circles in the Arc de Triomphe and never get out. They also say that you could get so confused which way to go because traffic is going around the arc.
6.) Disneyland
Paris, too, has a Disneyland of its own. It has the trademark rides, parades, fireworks display, and attractions all Disneyland theme parks are famous for. But, of course, there is still something that is uniquely Franceâ??s alone.
7.) Historic Normandy
Perhaps the most famous place in France when it comes to history is Normandy. Normandy has seen too many wars and fought too many battles for France. The most famous event here is the burning of Joan of Arc in 1431.
8.) Lourdes
The apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary during the 19th century to Bernadette Soubirous have made this place a popular destination for pilgrims and devotees of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As such, this place has also become a tourist destination. If you are a devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary, then this place is for you.
9.) Musee dâ??Orsay
This magnificent museum of art found inside a railway station is a testimony of how much the French love and revere art. Because of this, they will impart this love to anyone and everyone who is interested. So, if you are an art lover, then head on to Musee dâ??Orsay.
10.) Vineyards
France is famous for its wine tours. You can take your pick from Alsace to Rhone Valley on which vineyards to visit where you can do a little wine tasting or perhaps even jump in and join grape harvesting. Truly a uniquely French experience!
