Breaking a leg still “Good Luck” in Hollywood?
The Short Film “Paging David Cronenberg” stars Veronica Grey and Paul Bubbo. It is 7:23 minutes long, in honor of one of their Hero’s birthday – Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, who is born on July 23 or 7/23.
The project was born from several ideas, linked to Martin Scorsese’s “Departed” and Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings.”
Veronica, who has been paying her dues as an actress in Hollywood since her teens in 1996, was in 2006 mentored by a couple named Marc and Elaine Zicree.
In September 2006, The Zicrees suggested that Veronica follow the example set by Elijah Wood, star of megablockbuster trilogy “The Lord of the Rings.”
The Zicrees told Veronica that when Elijah heard that Peter Jackson was going to shoot “Lord of the Rings,” Elijah (who was relatively unknown at the time) got his friend Sean Astin (supposedly washed-up child actor) and they shot a short film of one of the scenes from the book by J.R.R. Tolkien.
They got the short film to Mr. Jackson.
Long story short, Mr. Jackson, who had intended to originally cast only UK based actors, was so impressed with their efforts that he flew to Los Angeles to meet Elijah and Sean, and the rest is film history.
This story is legendary among actor wannabes in Hollywood, as acting teachers tell this inspiring story in their classes to encourage their students.
Apparently Vera Farmiga did the same thing as Elijah Wood and that is how she got her part in “The Departed” by Martin Scorsese.
Doesn’t anyone ever wonder how a relative unknown gets to do love scenes opposite both Leonardo DiCaprio AND Matt Damon?
So the Zicrees encouraged Veronica to pick her favorite director, and get SOMETHING to him, rather than continue “throwing a bunch of work out there randomly hoping something sticks.”
Well that was a no-brainer.
Easy.
David Cronenberg. He was born on 3/15, and Veronica on 3/14.
Plus some of her top favorite movies of all time were directed by him:
“eXistenZ,” “Scanners,” and “Naked Lunch,” to name a Few.
And she had had the opportunity to meet him twice in person already.
The first time was in September 2005, at the Getty Center, when Cronenberg hosted a screening of Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
Veronica found the film “too long” and left to go wander around in the middle of Skirball.
Who should she bump into in the hallway, where they would be left alone to have a meaningful exchange?
You got it. Mr. Cronenberg. His first words to her were “scolding” her for walking out of the film.
She met him again in January 2006, just a few months later, in Palm Springs, when Mr. Cronenberg was presented with the Visionary Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
So Veronica felt positive that if she created a piece of film, she could get at Least “get it” to him. She kept an eye on Mr. Cronenberg’s IMDB page to see what his upcoming projects would be.
“London Fields” by Martin Amis was set to go into production by Muse Productions. Turns out Veronica actually has acquaintances at Muse, since they released “Spun” which was written by her friend Will De Los Santos and scored by her associate Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins.
Veronica was extra excited because Muse Productions is located literally steps from her own townhouse in Venice, California.
And so a short film was born on October 2006, only one month after the Zicrees suggested it. They took some pages from “London Fields” and added a few homages that only Mr. Cronenberg, or his fans, would “get.”
It was never shot with ANY commercial purpose. Simply a labor of love to get to Mr. Cronenberg while allowing divine will to take its course.
Co-stars in the film include Paul Bubbo and Chris DeWolf. It was edited by Roberto Jimenez and Produced by Michael L. Lynch.
On the day of shooting which began at 5am, it was so dark, that Veronica could not see the bottom step and twisted her ankle badly.
She considered it a great omen for “breaking a leg.”
So if you watch the film, notice her limping along if you look closely.
Music by Brian Hyland, Billy Corgan, and Madonna are in the short film.
Meanwhile, according to IMDB, “London Fields” is no longer on Mr. Cronenberg’s plate, as is the nature of the industry; however, “Paging David Cronenberg” indeed premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2008 and has brought interesting attention to Veronica Grey.
In the 2007 #1 Album “Zeitgeist” by Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan references this short film in the song “Neverlost” when he sings, “I’ve seen the film. I know the place.” Venice, California happens to be the Place. Not quite Hollywood, but still a good location to break a leg!

Learn More About the Stars of Hollywood
Megan Fox was voted the Sexiest Woman in the World by avid readers of FHM Magazine through an online poll. She was in no. 68 slot in 2006 and no. 65 in 2007. She surely worked her way up.
Following her are Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel. She beat lots of big name beautiful and sexy actresses including Elisha Cuthbert and even Angelina Jolie, who they say she resembles the most.
She has started her career in modeling and acting but Fox’s got her big break when she landed the lead female role in the blockbuster movie Transformers. She already posed for big name magazine’s like FHM, GQ and Maxim.
Drew Barrymore is one of the Hollywood’s well loved actresses.
Her career started at the age of 7 in the movie E.T. Although she went into a rebellious stage in her teen years she was able to bounce back to become a one of Hollywood’s most recognized child actresses and producer as well.
She mostly stars in romantic comedy films like: The wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Never Been Kissed etc. She has her own production company, the Flower Films which produced some of her movies.
After failed marriages and relationships, she is still enjoying her single life as well as becoming the World’s Most Beautiful in 2007.
On the 61st annual Cannes Festival held in France, the red carpet makes way for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
On the Kung Fu Panda’s press conference, some secrets between the movie’s main cast were spilled. First, Jack Black told the media that Bradgelina are expecting twins due this summer. Secondly, Dustin Hoffman is also claiming that there was a time when Angelina Jolie had to choose between him and Brad Pitt. Well. It’s clearly visible now whom Angelina choose.
The couple is expecting their twins to come due on August 19 this year. Yet she’s still hadn’t make-up her mind where to give birth but considering that France is a good place to conceive.
Since their adopted children (Maddox and Sahara) are now having French Lesson and additional Cultural Lesson so that they can learn about the family’s original culture. How cool can that be? The couple must be having their excitement double-up with the twins to add up to their family and Angelina Jolie is now very exhilarated.
There are also reports that the couple is considering to have more children after their twins. I just hope that they’re going to the knot pretty soon and not to be bounded by their responsibility to raise-up her children with Brad Pitt.

Bollywood Pictures, Look Out Hollywood!
Bollywood Pictures
We all know that Hollywood is out of story ideas and is adopting scripts from Asian film hits. For those who may not be well-versed in the international film circuit, the closest encounter they may have had with Bollywood pictures are Hollywood knock-offs such as “The Guru” and the yet to be released “The Love Guru,” both movies tampering with Indian culture with less than flattering representations. But what most people do not know is that Bollywood is a burgeoning film industry with a reputation of producing an impressive number of 1000 feature films a year.
History
No, Bollywood is not what you’d expect it to be, as its name suggests. Perhaps the common thing between Hollywood and Bollywood is that they’re both the entertainment capitals of nations that have a huge movie-loving crowd. There is no Beverly Hills counterpart in India or a mountain which displays big, white letters that spell ‘BOLLYWOOD’ to mark the country’s entertainment center. Instead, ‘Bollywood’ is a portmanteau word derived form ‘Bombay’ and ‘Hollywood’ which is used to refer to India’s movie industry.
India started making films in 1913 (the first being “Raja Harishchandra” a full-length silent feature film) and by three more decades, 200 Bollywood pictures were being produced in a year!
As known by those who enjoy international film sampling once in a while, Bollywood pictures are mostly musicals. It is also known to Bollywood audiences that a film’s success greatly depends on the quality of the musical numbers they present. This means elaborate costumes, a lot of singing, and meticulously choreographed dances.
Bollywood overseas
From the traditional musicals, Bollywood has also produced pictures more suited to the taste of an international audience. In 2002, ‘Devdas,’ which stars
Aishwarya Rai , made a great impact at the Cannes Film Festival, causing audiences to take a closer look at Indian cinema. Not long after, Ronnie Screwvala, a prominent Bollywood producer, took Jhumpa Lahiri’s award-winning novel, ‘The Namesake’ into a full-length motion picture. The movie was a commercial success, providing more opportunities for Bollywood movies to have a wider circulation outside of India.
All in all, Bollywood’s growth is undeniable. Stars such as Aishwarya Rai have now started crossing over, gaining popularity in the western world. She has started being seen in popular television shows such as 60 Minutes and even the ever popular Oprah Winfrey Show.
The scripts of Bollywood films are commonly in ordinary Hindi or Hindustani which are also spoken by most of the population. However, a number of movies have also used regional languages or dialects depending on the local color of the film setting. Current mainstream Bollywood films also make great use of English. A lot of films have several lines of English incorporated in the script. There is also growing number of Bollywood pictures that are made entirely in English. This is another sign of Bollywood reaching out into the global market.

10 Most Famous Hollywood Party Girls
Even though Hollywoodâ??s Party girls seem to have taken a vacation recently, some say because the economic mess making Americans less likely to think their over-indulgence entertaining anymore, they are still active.
Here is the Top 10.
1. Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton can easily be the queen of the Hollywood party scene but even she doesnâ??t seem to like the headlines anymore.
Ever since her disastrous and humiliating stay in the Los Angles County jail Paris has maintained not only a low profile but is actually cleaning up her image.
She has moved in with her steady boyfriend and spends a great deal of her time working on selling her cosmetics and clothing, and then she is in partying. Maybe Paris has hung up her spurs, maybe not.
There have been reports of her disturbing neighbors with loud parties. The best indicator might be seeing how she does once the economy lifts.
2. Britney Spears
Britney Spears who got caught up in a very public emotional meltdown just a couple of years ago, in and out of rehab and shaving her head; she was trailed by paparazzi constantly and even married one of the photographers who was trailing her.
Spears also seemed to fade from view as a Hollywood party animal. Britney is not healthy, and on a concert tour, albeit under a tight regime after she was carried away from her home, strapped on a stretcher and admitted to a hospital.
Even when it seemed that Britney would go forever as the party girl of the century, she seems to have left the circuit.
3. Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie has to be mentioned along side her partner in partying crime Paris.
First climbing toward both popularity and notoriety on the hit show â??The Simple Lifeâ? that she co-starred in with Paris, Nicole, daughter to legendary singer Lionel Richie, became famous for her foul language on screen and wild behavior off screen.
Now the mother of two children, Nicole started toning down her act before Paris did.
Arrested several times for DWI and resisting arrest, and recently caught doing another sex video, Nicole was on her way to a bad slide before friends and family intervened.
4. Lindsey Lohan
Lindsey Lohan, arrested in 2007, actually faced jail time has now started therapy and has stopped drinking.
She did live up to her reputation as a hard partying girl with the debut of her new collection for Parisian fashion house Emanuel Ungaro, by showing super short pink dresses and blazers to be worn over bare skin.
The show, held in Parisâ?? famed Louvre museum was abuzz when she showed up in a white mini dress and red stiletto heels. It appears that Lindsay still hasnâ??t matured like the rest of the girls and flashing her panties in Cannes recently seems to bear that out.
5. Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston was once known as Americaâ??s â??good girlâ? has a perfect image in the 80â??s and 90â??s and then her behavior changed. She started showing up late for interviews and photo shoots and even started canceling concerts and talk show appearances.
Because of her missed performances and rapid weight loss, speculation about drug use and problems with her husband singer Bobby Brown began to circulate.
Then on January 11, 2000 she was found to have marijuana in her luggage at the airport but boarded her plane with Brown before authorities could arrive. Houston, having been through rehab, seems to have settled down well.
6. Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore has been one of Hollywoodâ??s naughty beauties for many years, specializing in scandalizing the public with her antics.
Drew, who comes from a famous Hollywood family with itâ??s own share of past scandal, came to fame when she was seven years old with her portrayal of Gertie on â??ETâ? and reportedly took her first drink at nine, her first marijuana at 10, cocaine at 12 and rehab at 15.
Many of her movies, â??Poison Ivyâ?, â??Gun crazyâ?, â??Bad girlsâ?, didnâ??t help her image, and neither did posing for Playboy or flashing her breasts on the David Letterman Show.
Her last antics were the breast baring make out sessions with Heather Graham.
7. Heather Graham
Heather Graham keeps a long list of men in her life and some women also if the lip-locking adventures with Drew are any indication. Heather has had numerous sex shots and videos taken that appear all over the internet.
Her list of different boyfriends includes Russell Crowe, Heath Ledger, Ed Burns, Pete Yorn, and James Woods.
Heather came from a family that did everything it could to prevent their daughter from going to Hollywood. Bitten by the acting bug early and her career blossomed while her personal life seemed to go in every direction but the right one.
8. Tara Reid
Tara Reid is being called the Queen of the Botched plastic surgeries by the Hollywood press after a bad liposuction procedure a few years ago. That hasnâ??t stopped the hard partying â??American Pieâ? star however.
Tara was photographed recently in Miami hosting one of her famous $5 parties with free booze.
By the looks of the photos she got a little free coke out to the deal also. Taraâ??s antics arenâ??t slowing any as she gets older. She even appears on LA beaches in a string bikini, flashing her belly scares for the entire world to see.
One reporter, seeing the photos of her on the beach said that a night with Tara might not be worth the price of a warm can of Milwaukeeâ??s Best.
9 . Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie may be out to save the world single handedly during the day but she is still a dark force at night.
In 1996 she scrawled the name of her then husband Jonny Lee Miller on her white shirt in blood.
Four years later, at the Oscars she declared loudly â??I am so in love with my brother right nowâ?, and followed it up with a very long kiss.
Her vials of blood around the neck with then husband Billy Bob Thornton and her tiger back tattoo are hard reputations to live down. Maybe people would believe if she adopted another 10 kids.
10. Madonna
Madonna, the original â??material girlâ? defines scandal. Taking the stage at a tender age, Madonna has virtually owned the tabloids for nearly 30 years, and shows no sign of slowing down.
She has been arrested for possession, public nudity, assault and a variety of other charges and on top of this, seems upset that her recent petition to adopt was turned down basically because of her non-mom like history.
Her shows, her movies, her personal life have been a virtual media circus since the day that she stepped on stage. If getting older is supposed to slow you down, someone forgot to tell the Material Girl
