How do I get from Nice airport to Cannes?

Hi, I’m an extremely limited French speaker from England, studying media, going with a friend to the Cannes Film festival. We have no idea how to get from Nice airport to Cannes. We’re going in May 2010.
I’ve researched but found all the buses and trains confusing so am seeking some help! We are arriving in the late evening so I was worried buses might also not be running at that time. It also seems the train station is a long way away from the airport.
Can anyone give clear help to someone who really doesn’t understand how to plan this part of the trip?

I’m arriving at Marseille Province airport at 10:15 pm and I figure by the time I get off the plane and go through customs, etc. it will bet like 11:30. I’m planning on taking a train to Cannes early the next day so I’m wondering if anyone knows if I can stay overnight at Marseille airport after I land??? Thanks!
