Razzia: Poster Artist Extraordinaire

During the Golden Age before all the new computer technology, advertisers hired the best artists to make unique renderings of the things they wished to sell in order to stand out from their competitors with a strong image. Razzia’s posters embody perfect communication – elegantly modern and executed with uniquely surreal Art Deco brevity.

He began his career as a successful photographer hired to capture “rock & roll giants” like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd. But Razzia began to feel limited by the camera. Looking for an expression that gave him the opportunity to control every detail of composition, he devoted himself to graphic design. In most cases the artist would produce a painting, and when it was approved, would be lithographed with the appropriate text. Razzia still creates his posters from an original painting, a technique not very common in this age. With this new sense of purpose, the need for a new name arose.

Thus, Razzia was born. Over the past 25 years, he has conceived some of the most memorable images in order to grace the contemporary market place. Razzia lives and works in Paris, and has done numerous posters for Louis Vuitton world-wide, including the Parc de Bagatelle Concours d’Elegance and the America’s Cup Challenge. He has also done artwork for various restaurants in the United States and Europe, as well as the Cannes Film Festival, Monte Carlo Country Club, and many others.

We are proud to have been working with Razzia for the last 15 years, and you can see many of his images on our website, at www.arteauto.com. Razzia has found his niche by creating compositions that blend perfectly with advertising posters.

Reads on the Bible

I answered my door and there he stood: shocking blond hair closely cropped and starched shirt. He had a pronounced pleat in his pants, an engraved name tag that read â??Carlâ? in gold faced Times New Roman, a narrow black tie and a big white smile. This one was must be brave, I thought. Jehovahâ??s Witnesses often come to my door, but not often do they come alone.

â??Good afternoon, sir, are you interested in the Word of the Lord?â?

To fully appreciate this situation, you have to understand the hurricane-swept state I kept my condo in. Directly in the line of sight of the doorway was a scratched beige leather loveseat that I had picked up for $50 on craigslist. To the right of said sofa was a purple plastic crate almost entirely covered by a black restaurant table cloth acting as an end table. The opposing TV, set to High Stakes Poker on mute, was the only light in the otherwise dingy young man den. The stench of neglected Cheez-It boxes strewn about the patchy blue carpet ate a malaise into every visitorâ??s face. Every visitor, that is, but Carl.

â??May I come in, Mrâ?¦?â?

He was perky, and would not have looked out of sorts with freckles, a bowtie and a little red wagon, but the Jehovahâ??s Witnesses only seemed to send out the most thick-skinned of missionaries capable of dealing with the kind of repeated failure that goes along with door-to-door missionary work. Plus they have a uniform.

â??Sure, Carl, come on in, letâ??s chat.â?

â??Thank you kindly sir, my name is Car- oh I guess you already know that!â? He shrugged and laughed goofily as he reached out to shake my hand. Despite my cold-hearted, ill-intentioned way, there was something disarming about witnessing a fully grown man chortle and freely use the word â??kindlyâ?.

â??Iâ??m Nick, Carl. Why donâ??t you take a seat?â? I shook his hand then motioned to the littered loveseat.

â??Iâ??m sorry, Carl, I just wasnâ??t expecting any visitors. Let me get this for you, Carl.â? I swatted an open box of Cheez-Its off the leather seat to the other side of the room scattering a few collateral snacks about.

â??Please, Carl, sit.â? Whenever I am trying to make someone with a nametag feel uncomfortable I overuse their name. I figure nobody wants to wear a nametag so it follows that nobody wants continual attention brought to it.

â??Thank you, Nick.â? Without missing a beat, Carl bounced over to the desiccated loveseat, put his calves to the cushions, bent at the middle and ended up seated neatly, occupying a perfect half.

â??Nick, have you ever heard of the greatest book ever written?â? Apparently he must have thought I had on a nametag.

â??Do you mean the Bible, Carl?â?

â??Yes, Nick, I do.â?

â??Well sure, Carl, I have heard of the Bible.â?

â??Have you ever read the Bible, Nick?â?

â??No, Carl, I havenâ??t.â?

â??Do you ever feel empty, Nick? Like life is without meaning.â?

â??Well, Carl, I play a lot of poker, so actually winning pots mean quite a good deal to me.â?

â??I see that, Nick. Would you mind it too awfully much if we just turned off the television so as to maybe, hone in on the topic at hand?â?

â??I would, Carl, because without the TV there is no light. I canâ??t very well see the Light without light to begin with.â? I smiled a Cheshire cat smile, waiting for Carl to squirm a bit in his pressed pants, made antsy by my slightly blasphemous wordplay. But the little booger didnâ??t squirm at all — he laughed!

â??All right, Nick, we all have to make due.â? Then he turned towards me, even pivoting with his feet so he could face me entirely as best the loveseat would allow.

â??As great as the Bible is, Nick, it is the single most misunderstood piece of Literature in the history of the World.â?

â??Thereâ??s a lot of truth to that.â?

â??More people have been hurt under the auspices of false understanding of the Good Book than just about any other way. And Nick, itâ??s these peopleâ??s false ideas which are leaving good folk like yourself with a bad taste for the Bible in their mouths.â? I was finding myself listening to what Carl was saying, a dangerous enterprise as I was also losing focus of my goal to drive him screaming from my hovel.

â??Right, Carl, I have a question for you.â?

â??Yessir?â?

â??What do you think of poker?â?

â??Well, Nick, gambling is not the sort…â?

â??But poker isnâ??t gambling, Carl. Itâ??s a card game, Carl. Like Uno.â?

â??Unoâ??s not often played for millions of dollars, Nick.â?

â??No, Carl, it isnâ??t.â?

â??But back to the Bible for a momentâ?¦â? Carl breathed in and repositioned himself. AH HA! I was back on track!

â??Hold on, Carl. Now Iâ??ve never read the Bible as I was raised by an Atheist and a Jew â??â??

â??Do you mean a Jewish Man?â?

â??Yeah, my Dad was a Jew. And like I said, Iâ??m no expert on the Bible but I imagine that you are, right Carl?â?

â??No sir. I am no type of expert on â??â??

â??But youâ??ve read the Bible, right, Carl?â?

â??Yes sir, several times!â?

â??Great! Now according to the Bible, God is everywhere in everything right?â?

â??Nick, if you want to keep on talking then I can just-â??

â??Now wait, Carl. Just follow me here, youâ??ve come into my home now, and Iâ??d be happy to listen to you, just follow me here first.â?

â??All right.â? It was so easy that I almost felt bad for him. Poor guy, trying to spread his faith, I wondered if he would have any spirit left after he left my little den.

â??Good, great, OK, now, God is everywhereâ?¦ in everything, correct?â?
â??Yes, correctâ?¦ except for Hell.â?

â??Fine. So God is everywhere except for Hell. Now we can both agree that everything on Earth, is by definition, not in Hell.â?

â??Yes but that does not mean that it cann-â??

â??Tut tut, we had a deal here, Carl.â?

â??Youâ??re right, Nick, I apologize.â?

â??So poker, like the poker which is lighting our room right now, is necessarily occurring outside of Hell, so is governed by the laws of God.â? Carl looked quizzically up, I had him now. â??Right?â?

â??Yesâ?¦ thatâ??s right.â?

â??So it follows, Carl, that if poker is solely about lying then it would violate Godâ??s law and become sinful.â?

Silence. I wanted to give Carl a second to catch up.

â??Ever heard of Barry Greenstein, Carl?â?

â??Is that your father?â?

â??No, no, no. Barry Greenstein is a guy who donates to charities across the world. Heâ??s given millions and millions of dollars to starving children in Africa. And you know how he makes all of that money he gives away, Carl?â?

â??Poker?â?

â??Yup, heâ??s a poker player.â?

â??I see what youâ??re saying but poker is about making money, Nick, and Timothy 6:10 tells us, â??For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.â?? And though Mr. Greenstein may be doing some holy activities with his money, God knows what he is doing with the rest of it!â?

â??Precisely, Carl, God knows, we donâ??t. I may not have ever read the Bible, but I certainly know the part that goes â??judge not others lest ye be judged yourself.â?? Are there poker players who spend their money on prostitutes and booze and God knows what else? Just like there are members of the clergy who do, you bet there are! But are there Barry Greensteins out there just like there are real holy men, who do live out the Bibleâ??s Word? Are there players who try to help the world with their money?â?

â??But the Bible also warns against the drive to â??get rich quickâ??.â?

â??Rich is all relative, Carl, thatâ??s the not judging thing. Minimum wage in California is about $8.00 an hour which would be about $320 a week for a full-time gig. And minimum wage is certainly no get rich quick scheme! But in Costa Rica, $320 per week would put you in the upper-middle class, youâ??d be able to buy a house! While making $50,000 for a day of high-stakes poker work may seem like a ton to you or me, thatâ??s tiddlywinks to Warren Buffett who has been going to Church every Sunday for the past 60 years.â?

â??Church going and without sin are two very different things.â?

â??Great point, Carl, great point. What does the Bible say about winning?â?

â??About winning?â?

â??Yes, Carl, about winning.â?

â??I donâ??t recall anything directly addressing winning.â?

â??Thatâ??s right! Because the most important thing in poker isnâ??t money, itâ??s winning! Just like the most important thing you do is win people over to your faith. There are plenty of people who play poker for funny money online, and have a grand time doing it! The most important thing in strip poker is winning peopleâ??s-â??

â??Iâ??m following you Nick, letâ??s not get into strip poker.â?

â??Ok, Carl, I hear you.â? Silence again. Iâ??d gotten a little carried away, and now we sat without much to say. Our faces glowed blue from the muted TV light.

â??Nick?â?

â??You want to start talking about the Bible now, Carl?â?

â??No. Iâ??d like for you to tell me about poker.â?

â??Jeez, really? Iâ??d be happy to Carl. You know I was just trying to scare you away before but if you, uh, want some Cheez-Itsâ?¦â?

â??No, Nick, if I wanted Cheez-Its I would have reached into your sofa and gotten them for myself.â?

â??Yeahâ?¦â?

â??Cleanliness is next to Godliness.â?

â??But thatâ??s what youâ??re here for, right Carl? A Jehovahâ??s Witness sent to heal the heathens.â?

â??Iâ??m not a maid, Nick. Nor am I a Jehovahâ??s Witness.â?

â??Youâ??re not? But you came to my door and brought â??â??

â??Nick, you really need to read what I actually brought to your table, not what you expected from someone who just looks like me.â? I couldnâ??t help but smile, this time a friendly one rather than a mouthful of mischief. I may not have been one for religion, but whatever it was that was guiding my visitor was an inarguably positive force.

â??Carl, you keep thinking like that and you might just have a wonderful poker career ahead of you.â?

â??Well thank you, Nick.â?

â??You bet.â?

Summary

Montecito Casino & Hotel,Las Vegas, Nevada. Ed Deline (Cann) and Danny McCoy (Duhamel) works on the surveillance team of the casino. Since we are talking about Las Vegas , there is a lot of work to be done: Looking for cheaters, hosting and protecting the famous and the “whales”, and taking personal care of those who win too much…

The series originally centered around Ed Deline, a strict ex-CIA officer who went from being Head of Security to becoming President of Operations of the Montecito, whose job is to run the day-to-day operations of the casino. Following his departure from the series in Season 5, former Marine Danny McCoy (Josh Duhamel), Ed’s former protege, has become the Montecito’s new President of Operations.

Other characters that work with McCoy include current Head of Security and Surveillance, and former Head Valet, Mike Cannon (James Lesure) who plays an integral role in investigations due to his engineering degree from MIT.

Danny’s childhood friend and ex-fiancée, Mary Connell (Nikki Cox), worked at the Montecito first as Event Director then got promoted to Hotel Manager in the third season until leaving at the end of the fourth season.

Nessa Holt (Marsha Thomason) was the Montecito’s pit boss and “best pit boss in Las Vegas” until her departure at the end of the second season to live with her father and sister.

Samantha Jane “Sam” Marquez (Vanessa Marcil), a businesswoman and self-proclaimed “best casino host in the world,” has one goal: to get high rollers to play at the casino.

Ed’s daughter Delinda Deline (Molly Sims) serves as the Entertainment Manager, and runs all the food and beverages in the casino. She is currently living with Danny after previously having a romantic connection with him early in the first season.

The ownership of the casino has changed quite a bit with A.J. Cooper (Tom Selleck) as the sixth owner.

TNT has been airing reruns of the series since the fall of 2007.

How to Visit France

1.) The Louvre

First stop is almost always the most famous art museum in the history of France and probably the world, The Louvre. It houses some great artistic talents including the famously infamous Leonardo da Vinci. His Mona Lisa is still the top attraction, and that secretive, knowing smile of hers is always a must-see.

2.) The Eiffel Tower

Next on the list is, of course, the Eiffel Tower. It was once ridiculed by ancient artists as a monstrosity but is now regarded as one of Paris, Franceâ??s best works of art. Inside, you can get souvenirs, have your postcards stamped with the Eiffel Tower insignia and dine in their restaurants.

3.) French Riviera

Within its borders, you will find the famous tourist destinations Nice, Cannes and St. Tropez. Its beaches are so breathtaking and magnificent, and they are perfect for a romantic rendezvous. The scene also becomes a little wilder once the parties get rolling in the evenings.

4.) The Cathedral of Notre Dame

Victor Hugoâ??s famous book has this as the backdrop of his entire story where we all learned to love the brave and endearing hunchback. Famous for its stone architecture complete with towering religious icons, gothic design capturing different faces of gargoyles, the Notre Dame Cathedral shouldnâ??t be missed. As such, this place should always be in the itinerary of anyone visiting France.

5.) Napoleonâ??s Arc de Triomphe

This was built in honor of the French military who fought alongside Napoleon, and this is one of Franceâ??s famous historic landmarks. Some say that if you donâ??t know your way around Paris, you could end up going around in circles in the Arc de Triomphe and never get out. They also say that you could get so confused which way to go because traffic is going around the arc.

6.) Disneyland

Paris, too, has a Disneyland of its own. It has the trademark rides, parades, fireworks display, and attractions all Disneyland theme parks are famous for. But, of course, there is still something that is uniquely Franceâ??s alone.

7.) Historic Normandy

Perhaps the most famous place in France when it comes to history is Normandy. Normandy has seen too many wars and fought too many battles for France. The most famous event here is the burning of Joan of Arc in 1431.

8.) Lourdes

The apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary during the 19th century to Bernadette Soubirous have made this place a popular destination for pilgrims and devotees of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As such, this place has also become a tourist destination. If you are a devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary, then this place is for you.

9.) Musee dâ??Orsay

This magnificent museum of art found inside a railway station is a testimony of how much the French love and revere art. Because of this, they will impart this love to anyone and everyone who is interested. So, if you are an art lover, then head on to Musee dâ??Orsay.

10.) Vineyards

France is famous for its wine tours. You can take your pick from Alsace to Rhone Valley on which vineyards to visit where you can do a little wine tasting or perhaps even jump in and join grape harvesting. Truly a uniquely French experience!

5 Celebrities and Their Hot Russian Lovers

As many Americans are aware, Russians are a hot commodity in today’s society. Not only the women, but the men as well. Don’t believe me? Here are five examples of well-known celebrities and their Russian sweethearts.

1. Leonardo DiCaprio and Anne Vyalitsyna

Could Leonardo DiCaprio be dating another sexy model? Though unconfirmed, rumors abound about DiCaprio’s romantic involvement with hot Russian model Anne Vyalitsyna. The two allegedly met in July while DiCaprio was in London filming his movie “Inception,” and sources say the two have been hot and heavy ever since. After several sightings of the duo visiting various restaurants and nightclubs together one can only speculate on the true nature of their relationship. For now, neither party is talking. Twenty-three-year-old Anne Vyalitsyna, also known as Anne V, is a 5’10” beauty best known for her consecutive 5-year run in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She has also appeared on the covers of Vogue, ELLE, Glamour, and Gloss.

2. Naomi Campbell and Vladislav Doronin

Speaking of models, thirty-eight-year-old supermodel Naomi Campbell and Russian boyfriend Vladislav Doronin are rumored to be planning a wedding, though neither has publicly confirmed a date. Campbell and Doronin met at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2008 and the two have been inseparable ever since. The couple frequently vacation on Doronin’s yacht off St. Tropez in the South of France, and Campbell has even moved to Moscow to be closer to her Russian lover. While Campbell has reportedly met Doronin’s parents, we’ll just have to wait and see if those wedding rumors are true. Vladislav Doronin, known as Moscow’s Donald Trump, is a Russian billionaire property tycoon. The 46-year-old Doronin was recently named the 221st richest person in Russia by a Moscow-based magazine.

Cannes Luxury Hotels

There are no doubt a number of renowned Cannes luxury hotels in the Cote D’Azur-we have stayed at one such luxury hotel just outside Cannes.

My wife and I flew from Birmingham Airport in England to Nice Airport in the South of France in early June to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at a luxury hotel called Le Mas Candille about 10 km north of Cannes in a beautiful village called Mougin which has numerous artists shops/galleries and restaurants-a lovely old place to just meander around.

Le Mas Candille is indeed one of Cannes luxury hotels.

We drove up to the entrance gate of the hotel in the heat of the afternoon in a rented Peugeot 206 Cabriolette to be met by the gate attendant who let us through to drive down the tree lined long driveway arriving at the front of the hotel where we were greeted outside by two members of staff who took our luggage and parked our car. After a speedy check in we were shown to our bedroom in the original part of the building which was exquisitely furnished with a luxurious bathroom. French doors from the bedroom opened onto our own private terrace where breakfast can be taken if you so desire.

Le Mas Candille has 39 bedrooms -some located in a seperate modern building. It is set in several acres of well tended grounds with 2 outdoor swimming pools surrounded by sun loungers and hammocks. There are outdoor jacuzzis and a small outdoor gym with the most breathtaking views while you work out. The hotel has its own spa which offers all the usual treatments-my wife commented that the massage was the best she had ever received.

There are several quality restaurants at some of Cannes luxury hotels but the main restaurant at Le Mas Candille is a gastronomic michelin starred restaurant of the highest standard-service is impeccable and the food a delight. Dinner on our wedding anniversary was an evening to be remembered. There is a more informal restaurant by one of the swimming pools which again is superb-we usually ate breakfast here beneath the morning sun.

Le Mas Candille is an exclusive spa hotel which is without doubt one of Cannes luxury hotels.

Enjoy!
